Many states are now requiring Scanned Price Displays at the Retail Point of Sale. These displays must be placed in a location plainly visible to consumers. Each year, more states adopt this legislature, managed under the State Department of Weights and Measurements, subdivision (a), article 13300.
In part, this article states: "13300. (a) The operator of a business establishment that uses an automatic checkout system to sell goods or services to consumers shall ensure that the price of each good or service to be paid by the consumer is conspicuously displayed to the consumer at the time that the prices is interpreted by the system."
For those states who just adopted this ruling, the price displays must be in place on and after January 1, 2009.
